So, I have an extra day this month to do anything I want. Hmmm…
- Clean out a closet. (Forget that!)
- Do my taxes. (See number 1.)
- Hike a greenway.
- Get a massage.
- Prepare a special meal for my spouse, or, better yet…
- Make a reservation at Magnolia Grill.
- Visit my favorite independent record store.
- Explore a few NC vineyards.
- Play catch with my son.
- Wish Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward a Happy 7th Birthday! (He’s a “leapling.” See below.)
We all have an extra day this month…Wednesday, Feb. 29. Leap days occur most commonly on Wednesdays (and Mondays), and almost always in years evenly divisible by four, so this leap day is fairly routine. It’s up to you to make it less so. A leap day allows our calendar to stay in synch with the 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46 seconds it takes our planet to make a complete rotation around the sun. Folks born on a leap day are called “leaplings,” and they typically celebrate their non-leap day birthdays on either Feb. 28 or Mar.1.
So, if you’re not a “leapling,” how will you take advantage of this extra day? (And try to make it something fun! You only get this extra day once every four years.)
