HalloweenHow do you like your Halloween? Spooky? Terrifying? Downright I’ll-never-sleep-tonight scary?

Whatever fright factor you prefer, you’ll find something spine-chillingly appropriate in the Carolinas. Haunted houses, many done for local charities, can be found in just about every community.

Here are a few suggestions for a horrifyingly good Halloween:

  • Fear Farm. New attraction, 8,000 square feet on a “truly haunted” farm. Professional sets and effects. Open through Halloween night. Blacksburg, S.C., near the North Carolina/South Carolina state line.
  • Woods of Terror on Church Street. Winner of many awards, including one of America’s Best Haunts. Open for 20 years and definitely a Halloween fright fan fave. Open through Halloween night. Greensboro, N.C.
  • Kersey Valley Spookywoods. One of the oldest and largest haunted attractions in North Carolina. Prides itself on being a family-friendly attraction. Open weekends through Nov. 5. High Point, N.C.
  • Terror at Possum Creek. Sponsored by the Raleigh Jaycees, Possum Creek earns high marks for its scary town. Open through Oct. 31. Raleigh, N.C.
