Wait! I don’t live on a golf course. However, as most of you are aware golf-ball size hail stormed the city of Charlotte and Surrounding Areas this past weekend.
Don’t be surprised if questions arise in the coming days about Hail Damage as a result of our most recent weather disturbance.
Let’s review some of the FAQ’s and tactfully provide responses so that we can remain the trusted advisors for our Home Owners.
What happens if hail damages my car?
Hail damage to your car will be covered under your auto policy if you carry Comprehensive Coverage, also referred to as “Comp” or “Other Than Collision”. Your responsibility is the deductible which will usually be anywhere from $100 to $1,000 depending on your policy structure.
If I turn in the claim will my insurance rates go up?
Comprehensive Losses are not chargeable insurance points under your auto policy. However, upon renewal some carriers can choose to change your rating tiers depending on the number of claims reported. If your carrier assigns a catastrophic number, the claim will not be counted against you.
What happens if hail damages my roof?
Similar to your auto coverage, your homeowners deductible will apply. Most Home Policy deductibles start at $250. It is important to report the claim as soon as possible. Please take precautions to protect your property from further damage.
Consult your insurance agent or company with any questions.
