I like creativity and crafty projects to help spruce up my home. Surfing the internet and browsing magazines are great ways to get inspiration but nothing beats hearing ideas from my friends. Recently, a creative girlfriend of mine told me a great story about her quest to update her bedroom on a budget.
She had been looking for a new bedroom set off and on for a few years. She was frustrated because she either found something that she loved for more than she wanted to spend or something that matched her price range but not the look and feel she was hoping to achieve.
A few weeks ago, as she was waiting to check out at a local home improvement store, she was flipping through the home decorating magazines when an intriguing picture and article caught her eye. Curious, she decided to do a little online research online when she got home and found the solution that pleased both her budget and creative side.
The idea is to use fabric as a backdrop in place of a headboard! Clever right? Here are some options:
- You can use a curtain rod to hang the panel for a bold color or pattern.
- You can use two panels hanging on a curtain rod and draw back the panels with ribbons or hooks to create a mock window look. In the middle you could hang a framed picture or mirror.
- If you cannot find curtain panels that appeal to you, you can visit your local fabric store and select fabric to drape over the curtain rod like a scarf, letting one side hang lower than the other.
To top off your look, select some very large decorative pillows for the very back and then build your look across the bed coming forward with smaller pillows.
Don’t settle for status quo when you can decorate with a little creativity!
