It is that time of year again. The start of the craziness that is the school year. School buses are on the road and the kids are on their way back to school. I don’t know about you but I wonder what happens to summer. They never seem to be long enough but at the same time they last forever. So vacations are done and we have started our yearly run to get everything done in one day. Whether you have kids starting school or you yourself are starting back, this is the beginning of a new year.
This also the perfect time to get organized. Mornings are so much easier if you and the kids are not running around looking for that special shirt or that one shoe. If you are like me, I try to do the spring cleaning but I never do anything for the beginning of the school year. Why is that? Getting organized now gives you a wonderful start to the year.
The kids always want to start the year fresh, whether that means new clothes or new school supplies. Why shouldn’t we also want to start the year fresh? This would be a great time to put in that new organization system in the closet, put a fresh coat of paint in the living room, have a deep cleaning done on the house, finish those little projects that you kept thinking you would do during the summer.
There are ways that you can get organized so that it will not take so long to get ready in the morning.
Take a couple of minutes either during the weekends or in the evenings to get lunches together. This will prevent debate about what lunch will be that day.
- Make a place that is specifically for homework so it does not go wandering.
- Get packed up the evening before.
- Even taking the time in the evening to lay out everyone’s clothes for the next day can cut down on how much time it takes to get everyone ready and out the door.
Making little changes can make big differences in the morning. Especially on those mornings when it is raining outside and no one wants to get up. Take this time to get organized and have a successful start to the school year.

Leaving the clothes out the night before and packing lunches the night ahead really help. Wish I have gotten the living room painted! I love that idea - a fresh start for all!
